THE HORSE THAT BIT MY FATHER – Otinya to Tangier, 76 Years Later

In 1938, at the age of nineteen, my father left the village of his birth, Otinya, Poland (now Ukraine). Fleeing the steadily deteriorating situation for local Jews, he travelled alone by train and boat to Tangier, Morocco. Tangier was then a safe haven – a neutral demilitarized “International Zone”, jointly administered by a group of colonial powers.

In 2014, I re-traced his journey.
